Strong earthquake of magnitude 7.9 in Nepal PDF Print E-mail

On 2015-04-25 a strong earthquake of magnetitude 7.9 hit Nepal at 06:11 GMT. The epicenter was west of Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal. According to the USGS the majority of the population lives in buildings which cannot withstand such an earthquake.

On Friday, 30. January 2015 an earthquake of magnitude 4.3 hit the region close to the Austrian-Italien border. The earthquake happened at 1:45 in the region of Nassfeld. Updates will be available at the homepage of the Austrian Seismological Service.

A coronal mass ejection (CME) hit the geomagnetic field on March 17th. This triggered the strongest geomagnetic storm of the current solar cycle. Check our geomagnetic activity page for updates on the progress of the storm.

Recently, Patrick Arneitz participated at the 14th Castle Meeting (31.8.-6.9.2014) in Evora (Portugal). This year's scientific emphasis was on "new trends on Paleo, Rock and Environmental Magnetism". The small number (around 100) of attending scientist contributed to a pleasant atmosphere fostering a very productive intellectual exchange of ideas. In addition, Patrick's poster on the "Comparison of direct and indirect geomagnetic records" was one of five presentations awarded with a student prize.
